EDITORIAL FOOD ILLUSTRATIONS BY YOKO BAUM

Client :

Art Director : Kerry Wakefield

2023

Brief :

Kenji Morimoto is a fourth generation Japanese American, whose cultural identity is grounded in food. As a child, he was in charge of making Japanese food - especially Tsukemono (Japanese pickles) for family gatherings, learning from and surrounded by elders recreating flavors of home.

I'm so honored to create article illustrations for his wonderful story, also had a lot of fun to draw a variety of Japanese food as a first generation Japanese who is living in the U.S.

Also, I shared what is my favorite noodle dish as a contributor....,
"My favorites are cold udon noodles with dipping sauce - I like having them with a variety of vegetable tempura as a side."

So fun to see my comment on the magazine and enjoyed to check the other's "go to" noodles!!
