Brief :
After the success of my illustrations for Yokohama Oktoberfest 2024, I was excited to take on an additional project for a special collaboration with the popular Japanese Pro Baseball team, Yokohama DeNA BAYSTARS. My illustrations were featured across several key elements, like a photo booth Panel, flags, and keychains as merchandising.
This project allowed me to expand my work from the original Yokohama Oktoberfest project. It was rewarding to see my art merge the fun of Oktoberfest with the excitement of local sports culture in Yokohama!
This project was especially rewarding because the client and design team wanted to create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for everyone—from kids to adults. I loved illustrating the playful seagulls, and I’m proud that my idea of having one seagull playing baseball came to life!
Thanks again to the design team for their incredible work in bringing my illustrations to life! I'm so grateful for their talent and the images they shared from the event. It was a pleasure collaborating with such a creative and skilled team.
A Personal Reflection on Diversity & Inclusivity for This Project
The client’s vision of creating a friendly and fun atmosphere really resonated with me. I illustrated the cheering spectators to represent a variety of races and genders. As a minority living in the United States, I was grateful for the opportunity to create something that encourages inclusivity. In recent years, Japan has become home to an increasingly diverse population, and I'm proud to contribute to a project that reflects this positive shift.
While my spot illustration may be small, I hope it represent a meaningful step toward more diversity-friendly commercial art in Japan. I always strive to create artwork that brings people together and makes everyone feel welcome, no matter their background.
