As the holiday season approaches, there's a charming and aromatic way to infuse your home with festive spirit—creating dried orange ornaments and garland. This simple and delightful DIY project not only adds a touch of natural beauty to your decorations but also fills your space with the warm and citrusy scent of oranges. Embrace the joy of crafting as you transform this seasonal fruit into stunning ornaments and garlands that will adorn your home with a festive flair.

Materials Needed: To embark on this creative endeavor, gather the following materials:

  1. Oranges

  2. Sharp knife

  3. Parchment paper

  4. Baking sheet

  5. Twine or ribbon

  6. Optional: cinnamon sticks, cloves, or star anise for added fragrance

Dried Orange Ornaments:

  1. Preheat your oven to the lowest setting, usually around 200°F (93°C).

  2. Slice the oranges into thin, even rounds, approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick.

  3. Blot excess juice from each slice with a paper towel to expedite the drying process.

  4. Place the orange slices on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, ensuring they don't touch.

  5. If desired, add extra festive flair by placing whole cinnamon sticks, cloves, or star anise on the slices.

  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 2-3 hours, flipping the slices halfway through, until they are dehydrated and have a slightly translucent appearance.

  7. Allow the slices to cool completely before threading twine or ribbon through the center to create hanging ornaments.

Dried Orange Garland:

  1. Follow steps 1-4 for slicing and blotting the oranges.

  2. Thread twine through the center of each orange slice, leaving enough twine at each end for hanging.

  3. Space the orange slices evenly along the twine, securing them with knots.

  4. If desired, intersperse the orange slices with additional elements like cinnamon sticks or dried flowers to add visual interest and fragrance.

  5. Hang the garland in desired locations, such as on the mantle, staircase, or Christmas tree.

Conclusion: By incorporating dried orange ornaments and garland into your holiday decorations, you not only infuse your home with the festive scents of the season but also add a personal and handmade touch to your festive décor. This DIY project is a delightful way to engage in the holiday spirit and create lasting memories in your beautifully adorned home.
